Delete your account
Your Proof of Work account lives on your devices, not with us, so you delete it in the app. This page says how, what deleting removes, and what it can’t.
Effective 3 November 2026
On your phone
- Open Proof of Work and go to You.
- Under Your account, tap Delete account.
- Read what happens, type delete, then tap Delete account.
The app returns to its first screen. You can make a new account there; it won’t be connected to the old one.
On the web
- Open Proof of Work in your browser and go to Settings → Your data.
- Next to Delete account, choose Delete….
- Read what happens, type delete, then choose Delete account.
What deleting does
Before it erases anything, the app publishes three things from your account:
- a blank profile, with no bio, links, ENS name or Lens account;
- the removal of every wallet, Offline ID and other network link you made;
- on the device that created the account, the switch-off of your other devices, so none of them can sign for it again.
These reach other people’s devices only if a device or relay is linked at that moment. If nothing is linked, they are erased with the rest.
Then it erases from that phone or browser:
- your account keys (from the iOS Keychain, the Android Keystore or the browser’s storage);
- every post and event saved there, yours and other people’s, and their photos and videos;
- your settings, drafts, blocks and muted words;
- your usage-data id. Usage events already sent stay under the old random id, which nothing on our side links to your account.
Once the keys are erased, nobody can sign anything new as your account.
What deleting can’t remove
- Copies on other people’s devices. Posts, comments, votes, claims and your earlier profile that other people’s devices already hold stay there. Nobody can delete them from someone else’s device, including Offline Protocol.
- Our public node. Offline Protocol runs one public node that keeps a copy of public posts, like any other peer. To ask us to remove your content from it, write to legal@offlineprotocol.com with your account id (You → Your account code). Copy the id before you delete.
- Your other devices. On a device that was added to your account, deleting removes the account from that device only. Delete on the device that created the account as well, so your other devices are switched off.
- Your Offline ID. Deleting unlinks it, but your Offline ID with the Offline ID service is separate. To close it, write to support@offlineprotocol.com.
If you no longer have the app
Deleting the app removes what it saved on that device, though your phone may keep the account keys in its secure storage until you remove them. We don’t hold your account, so we can’t delete it for you. To ask us to remove your content from our public node, write to legal@offlineprotocol.com.
